Remembering Martin Bernstein

The news that community activist Martin Bernstein had died brought messages near and far. Here’s an e-mail from former Clarkstown Town Supervisor Charles Holbrook, now in South Carolina:
“I was saddened to learn of the death of Martin Bernstein. From the year he moved to Clarkstown ( 1955 ) until his death, Martin Bernstein was involved in community affairs. While people might agree or disagree with Martin Bernstein, no one could ever doubt his devotion to community involvement. He will be missed by all those who treasure community betterment before individual interests.”

Although I haven’t lived in New City for over 20 years I kept in touch with Martin.
His leadership of the New City Chamber and banning from WRKL’S Hotline show are vivid memories.
I hope someone sang his famous commercial at his funeral service. He had asked me to do it if I attended.
All of Rockland is a better place because of Martin.
With his work done here I guess he’s telling the Lord a thing or two.
Rest in Peace, Martin. Clarkstown, and Rockland, won’t be the same. No one but Marty could constantly interrupt a Town Board meeting like he could.
I agree with Joel. God better be prepared for a lot of questions.
RIP Grandpa
