Bridge worries

February
15

I’ve already received one query from a nervous resident of Salisbury Point in South Nyack (brick building just north of the span) who says she didn’t see her home on the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 corridor map published in a “special section”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=SPECIAL06 in this week’s JN.
The apartment complex is, indeed, there. It was one of the first locations I looked for Tuesday as the Project Team showed the media the updated maps they will share this month with the public. That question could be answered, but many more can’t, yet.
At least the South Nyack resident was paying attention. Communities all along the 30-mile corridor will be affected if this project comes to fruition.
I’m going to as many open houses as possible, as the “Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Project Team”:http://www.tzbsite.com/ shows their detailed maps, and not just because I have to for work. I live in Rockland, and I know my life will change with this project.
Want to go, too? The Rockland meeting is from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Palisades Center, Adler Community Meeting Room, 1000 Palisades Center Drive, West Nyack. Check the “Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Project website”:http://www.tzbsite.com/ for more information.

my question is why anew bridge ? i think the simplest and easiest is to fix the existing one. The reason for all the traffic is the toll booth and the shifting of lanes.

Well, that’s one of the six alternatives: Fix it, and just keep fixing it. Another alternative is “rebuild,” which would have the causeway from Rockland to the superstructure rebuilt to meet current standards, along with other work. You know, if you go to the meetings, you can ask Project Team Leader Mike Anderson or one of the others involved those specific questions. You can bet there will be a lot of DOT, Metro North, Thruway Authority types ready to take notes and answer your queries.
